SIGNALING ENERGY

POWER SUPPLY FOR PROTECTION AND SIGNALING SYSTEMS FOR RAILWAYS

The Spanish Railways transmit relatively small load currents over considerable distances via their 2,2 or 3kV singlephase networks.

Supply of 2200 or 3000 volts is made from transformer stations (CA) that step-up 230 or 400V three phase lowvoltage to 2200-3000V single or three phase medium voltage.

The distance between two step-up transformer stations can be about 25km.

For the 2,2/3kV networks 35mm2 Al 3/3kV RRFWV solid-insulation cables are used. Thus, in the point of the network where 230V are needed, a dust-proof sheet-steel switchboard type (AT)is installed, which consists of three two or three pole switch-disconnectors an a dry-type, epoxy resin enclosuretransformer to step-down 2200/3000 to 230V. The distance between the equipment to be operated and the2200/3000 to 230V transformer is from 10 to 20 metres.

If the low voltage supply is required in a railroad station, very often remote controlled transformer stations (CST) are used in order to take advantage of the tele-control capabilities of these equipments.
